 In oct. There is a manchester Baptism  of mary elizabeth CORNTHWAITE b 26 jul 1904 & her sister
Dorothy b 20th april 1907
 parents Emma and James Cornthwaite gold miner of 9 green street

This fits in with an arrival from Cape town to london of mrs Emma Cornthwaite  with children Dorcas and Elizabeth and infant Dorothy

In 1939 Dorothea BORSAY b 22 april 1906 with husband Thomas

Is on same page as widowed Emma SMITH + daughters Widowed Mary E WRIGHT
And Martha Cornthwaite b April 1916

Military records for James Cornthwaite shows him enlisted from 28 aug 1915 to 1 april 1916 wife emma of  39 Adelaide street Bolton
His death date is shown as 17 march 1917

I cant find this family in 1911
Was dorothea born + baptised South africa

& the couple seem to have married in 1915 if Emma.s maiden name is Robert s

Fresh eyes neede on this please

I dont know anything about Robert Cornthwaite but if its the right Emma Roberts shes one of 15 children of Dorcas Jones and James Roberts .( carter in 1861  lead miner in 1871 + 1881 & labourer in 1891 )

There is another travel record from london to South Africa 2 jan 1908 with Mrs E Cornthwaite age 25

& D age 1
Cant find the corresponding return journey or travel for James Cornthwaite

* Have found a return to UK in 1915 for James age 41 miner going to Adelaide street Bolton
Why doesnt he travel with his family

Dorothy DOB as 20 April 1907


Mary Elizabeth Cornthwaite 21 marries Samuel Wright age 23 on 3 April 1926 at St Matthew Bolton

That is the baptism I found which corresponds to 1939 dates and names
But no sign of Dorcas

They must have been in south Africa in 1911

I have a dna match to someome with Frank Cornthwaite b 1919 on their tree...too long .after James Cornthwaites death  but has mothers name as Emma ROBERTS

The cornthwaite tree on ancestry has a note that martha ann was baptised in 1922 but they dont have they other daughters

If James and Emma did not make it legal until 1915 then technically he was single. re travel
