Watch fob
« on: Wednesday 19 August 20 18:45 BST (UK) »
I've been told that this is a watch fob. I think it belonged to my great grandfather (initials JRC) who was a Shipwright in the Government Dockyards for many years. Does anyone know what the emblem is on it please?

I can't answer your question - but just want to say what an impressive artefact that is.

This might be a total rubbish suggestion - but as it is in relation to shipyards - might a Maritime Museum be able to help - such as Greenwich Maritime Museum? Maybe you could contact them to see if they could help if you sent them an image.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Thankyou for that suggestion, I hadn't thought of that. I know he worked at Devonport Dockyards so I'll contact their heritage centre and ask.

I can’t help I’m sorry, but an idle thought .... wouldn’t the engraving just be initials?

I don’t see any maritime motifs but I’m not sure if that means it wasn’t related to your great grandfather’s naval connections.  :)

These fobs were produced and sold for people and various bodies to engrave for themselves. A lot are presented by such has the local skittles or darts teams. Others were just bought and engraved privately

I have a similar one which was a cricket trophy. It's quite heavy, the middle is gold, I have another, not so large and all silver. There's a lot of information on the Internet, I hope you find out.
