Horan Family 1800 to 1900
« on: Saturday 22 August 20 22:27 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Am wondering if there is anyone out there who may have contacts with The Horan famiyl 1800-1900.
This is the family of my late  husband,Drew.   He often referred to them as coming from Sligo.
This is what I have so far
John Horan c1830 married to Winifred McFarry. His son is Michael Horan born c1850 married to Mary Dolan, His siblings were Catherine, Michael Teirnan and John  c1876. John came to Edinburgh, married and had a son John my father in law. John went from Edinburgh to USA twice but returned to Edinburgh and died 1920.
Any help would be great, I am sorry I dont have more details.

Kind regards Lynda

I am confused with your message.
John born abt 1876 was the son of Michael not the sibling.
He was born in 1875

The record is also confusing as you will see. Michael is named as father but then the informant also shows ‘John, father’. This is perhaps an error of recording child’s name instead of father’s name.

The discrepancies have been circled by the registrar but I can't seen any explanatory notes. The father's name was written by the registrar as the father didn't sign his own name but made his mark.

I understood the circling to show some identified error and thought, as I wrote, that the wrong name had been entered :-\

Lynda, have you looked for Horan in Surname Interests and added your Horan?
Horan was a common name in my GF's townland in Mayo.

Did you mean children, not "siblings"?
Was Teirnan a middle name used by Michael? It wasn't on his birth registration. Did anyone else include Teirnan as part of their names?

Tiernan was another son of Michael and Mary (Dolan)

I had thought that it should read children and not siblings.
