Uniform insignia changes due to transfers.
« on: Sunday 23 August 20 11:14 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful for some help to try and discover any changes to my grandfather's cap badges and uniform insignia as he transferred between units as per the attached.I have no idea when these transfers took place, only that he was wounded, and ultimately died at Druids Cross military hospital,Liverpool in 1923 from complications due to said wounding.

He served first with 9th Battalion King's Liverpool Regiment going overseas after the end of 1915.  The two numbers are because 9th was a Territorial Force battalion and the TF received new numbers in early 1917. His Labour Corps number was issued in Oct 17 to  Feb 18 so at that time he would have worn Labour Corps insignia BUT there were many Labour Corps who continued to wear their "old" insignia so we can't be entirely sure.   The WR number was issued in early 1918 so now he is wearing Royal Engineers insignia.
Unfortunately, without his record we can't be more precise as to dates except to say these were all overseas.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

It might be worth mentioning that the Labour Corps was a common route for men who had
received wounds & were no longer A1 fit but fit enough(B1) for overseas service but
not in a front line Battalion.
So possibly wounded in 1916/17 while with the 9th. & after some R & C transferred to the LC.
As a Sapper in the Waterways & Railways arm of the RE meant he had some skill needed.
This may be based on his pre war occupation or had been trained by the RE but ditto what
MaxD says about dates.
