Assets noted in Administration
« on: Monday 24 August 20 08:50 BST (UK) »
I have a list of the assets, noted in an Administration in South Africa dated 1876, and there is an item which baffles me.

Items include:

Oxen
cows and calves
wagon
furniture
books

plus:

sale of spider and horses - what is a spider (other than the creepy crawly)?

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

Doh!!   :-[  If in doubt, ask Mr G -

... More plausible, but not nearly as fun. There was a type of horse-drawn carriage in the 1 800's that was also called a "spider". This because it had a small body and large wooden wheels with thin spokes - resembling the arachnid eight legged insect. Many claim the word spider for the modern open top car has its beginnings here. ...
