Office without sign in?
« on: Monday 24 August 20 11:54 BST (UK) »
Hi

I apologise if this has been asked before

I’m just getting back to my research and also trying to tame a new Windows lap top

Having bought my Microsoft Office I expected to do what I’ve always done and start documents in a word and just store them and edit them on my device. I have no intention of using Cloud and as far as I’m concerned my letters are nothing to do with Microsoft

However my computer keeps telling me to sign in.

Is it really the case that Big Brother has decided I can’t use Office without signing in with Microsoft?

Any ideas please?

Best wishes

It depends what version of Office you 'bought'. If it's Office 365 then it's a subscription service that requires occasionally logging in to authenticate the subscription; if it's Office 2019 then it's the 'full' version and logging in isn't required.

Note that even with the 365 version you're not obliged to store for documents online, you can opt to store them on your local device(s).

Couple of articles which may help explain the differences:

I assume this is the subscription version?  If so, I signed in a while ago and am still signed in.

It will only ask you to sign in if you have previously signed out.  You can still save to your computer.

If the sign-in reminder you are getting is for OneDrive (the cloud space that comes as part of Office 365) and if you aren't going to use it, then you can stop the annoying reminder coming up by following the instructions here:
https://www.howtogeek.com/342550/get-rid-of-the-annoying-microsoft-onedrive-sign-in-popup/#:~:text=Rather%20than%20disable%20something%20you,click%20the%20%E2%80%9CUninstall%E2%80%9D%20button

It worked for me.

Is it the Office sign in or the OneDrive sign in that is plaguing you?
