Welch, Sarah c1820 Lichfield
« on: Wednesday 26 August 20 06:09 BST (UK) »
Sarah Welch was born c1820 according to her 1841 Census entry, where she gave Lichfield as her place of birth. The closest entry I could find is for William Alfred Welch, a butcher with a wife Catherine, listed in Trade Directories.
Sarah married Edwin Withers (Oct 1837) at St Martin's Bull Ring Birmingham. Sarah was a Minor (age 16-17) from Easy Row, Birmingham, "a publican's daughter". I have collected all 14 children from the marriage.
Looking for more info of her parents: William Welch, publican and wife Catherine.
In fact looking to verify that William Welch even existed, as he does not appear in 1841 as a publican.
With grateful thanks

Apologies,
Have re-checked my notes and found Sarah was born at Ashby de la Zouch, to William Welch (1841 Census has Walch) and Sarah Cheatle. He lived for a time in Lower Temple St at a eating house; he was also a butcher, and had dealings with the Red Lion, Bull Ring.
Would appreciate assistance in finding Sarah's siblings, please.

So I am in fact more or less, under control.
Any additional info most welcome.

Freereg Ashby De La Zouch

William Welch bap 5 January 1819 parents William Welch -servant and Sarah
Sarah Wellch bap 1 January 1820
Ann Wellch bap 1 January 1820

spelling as in transcription, each time William is a servant, it does not say that Sarah and Ann are twins (although it looks likely)

Just to add/clarify - the parish register images on FindMyPast for the baptisms at Ashby all have William's surname as Weltch, and Ann and Sarah are designated as twins.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

William jnr appears to still be in Ashby in 1841 - he's a butcher

HO107; 594; 44; 15;

By 1851 I think he's married and a market gardener in Birmingham

1871 he's moved to London

At her marriage in 1837, 5 October at St Thomas' (now a Peace Park) Sarah married Edwin Withers.
She had her father William Welch to witness her marriage. Edwin had "Edwin Gr??by", whatsisname.
Can't decipher whatsisname's handwriting. Sample attached. Could you oblige please.
I have an idea Edwin Whatsisname was probably Edwin Withers' godfather; just attempting to check and see who he may have been.
Thank you
