Mary Seymour c1713 Rudgwick area
« on: Friday 28 August 20 15:43 BST (UK) »
Hi

Hope someone can help here. Can anyone double check for a christening in the Rudgwick area for a Mary Seymour c1713?

Mary married James Compton at St Marie's Guildford in 1739. They married by licence and were both described as being "of Ridgwick" [that is how Rudgwick appears in the transcription I have seen]. James was a bachelor and Mary was a spinster and both were 26.

I have found James Compton's christening which took place in Rudgwick in 1713 but so far I've not had any luck with Mary. Is there any sign of a possible candidate in any nearby parishes?

The marriage licence also mentions a "Thomas Stynt of "Careford", co Sussex, farmer" who may be a relative but I don't know where "Careford" is. Could it be a mispelling of Kirdford?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Matt

Many thanks. At least that confirms who he was.

I suspect "sling fold" is probably Slinfold.

Still trying to locate Mary however. Could he be related to her?
