Stephen Griffins
« on: Tuesday 01 September 20 00:56 BST (UK) »
My cousins biological father was Stephen Griffins, his name might not be Stephen I'm not sure. Anyways Stephen was born in Newcastle, I don't know when but I would estimate around 1908-1920. He also died in Newcastle. Some time during WWII he came up to Scotland and had an affair with my aunt Sarah White (1911-1997). From that affair they had a daughter who is alive but that daughter didn't take the Griffins surname, she took Sarah's husbands name, Gemmell. Thats all I know on him.

Does your cousin have her full birth certificate ?
,sometimes the baptism records give more information ..naming birth father residence godparents .

Good luck in your search

No birth or death for him under Ste* Griff* in Northumberland.  Very few Griffins births in that timescale & none in Northumberland.

Quite a few Griffin births but without confirmation of his christian name it’s impossible to determine the right person

How do you know he was born & died in Newcastle?   Has your cousin done a DNA test?

No, she hasn't. A few years ago before my mum died she told me when I was starting my research.

Was on the phone to my cousin today, she said Stephen is not the father on the birth certificate and his name may not be Stephen.

So was the birth actually registered as Gemmell & is Alexander Gemmell shown as the father or is fathers name left blank?

So either he knew about the affair but accepted the child or he was kept in the dark.  Either way - there is insufficient info available to determine her biological father so DNA may be the only way forward
