Turnbull Dry Cleaning
« on: Wednesday 26 August 20 16:57 BST (UK) »
Hail to all you TURNBULL researchers.

In the early 1950's, my Mother would post parcels of clothing for Dry-Cleaning from London to Hawick to a firm that we knew as TURNBULL'S.

Is this firm know to you?  Who founded and ran it?  I suspect that it must have had a reputation for excellence!

Many thanks
Mark

A little more here:

The grassy junction with Northcote Street was the peculiarity of the ‘Chinese Dragon’ – a slaking series of dilapidated huts that were originally constructed as Glendinning’s dance academy, later W.D. Turnbull’s dry cleaning business, then Archie Aimers the joiners and lastly Jimmy Wood’s. The dragon was slew sometime around 1988 when Jimmy relocated to Loch Park Industrial Estate.

Many thanks,

I wonder if Company records looks correct to you? I see that the Edinburgh address also has lots of other companies and is probably a solicitors office

"The most recent document is "STRUCK OFF AND DISSOLVED" from the 2008.05.13. The latest accounts are filed up to 1999.03.31. The latest annual return was filed up to 1999.09.19. The total number of directors was so far 9"

I wonder if any living TURNBULL family currently in Hawick were involved in the business?

Greetings Monica,
Thank you,
Was the Dry Cleaning business connected with John Turnbull [Textile dyers and finishers] at Slitrig Bank or Crescent?
