The Batch, Weston Academy
« on: Monday 07 September 20 11:26 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Im looking for Information on The Batch Weston Academy in Weston, Somerset. My Relatives were scholars  there according to the 1861 Census. The "head" being school master George Browning.

Im wonder what type of school this would be? Perhaps a boarding school. From a family of 12 children, only the two youngest sons appear to have gone here.

Also where it was located and if the building still exists

Many thanks

George F Browning born 1832 Weston Somerset for anyone looking.

Lots of scholars so must have been a large building.

If you page backwards and forwards on the census you can find the neighbouring street names which may help locate it.

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

In 1871 it's called Weston School next to Weston Vicarage.

Thanks, 1861 its also next to the Weston Vicarage.

Do you think "Weston" refers to the suburb/ward of Bath?

In 1871 it is called Messrs Browning's Middle Class Boarding School. It is not marked on the 1885 Town Plan. https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/373033/166391/13/100303
In 1891 the school has a separate enumeration book
