          Ancestry says that James Thompson Groome died in Victoria Australia in 1883, how can I find any further information about that? There is plenty about him in Manchester .

There are a few mentions on trove

Search for "james t groome", "james groome", "j t groome" etc. There are some mentions in the Warragul area in 1881/1882, however the death notice cupoflife gave you has him in Bairnsdale in 1883 (some 180 km away).

You would need to buy the death certificate to find more certain information.

However, it looks to me that he is the son of Edward GROOME and Margaret TOWNS who married in Manchester in 1824
Banns can be seen on Ancestry.

Among their children also was Thomas.

He married Martha WADDINGTON in March 1/4 1848

So with  brother in Victoria and a jail term for larceny in Manchester behind him, perhaps James Thompson GROOME thought a move to Australia was a good idea.

Thank you All for solving that one.
  I had missed Thomas going to Australia,  James Thompson was married 3 times, in 1861, 1865 and 1872 when he said he was a bachelor!, then after the prison sentence, thought he had gone off the scene, he left a wife & 2 daughters.
