Unfit for duty
« on: Tuesday 15 September 20 18:20 BST (UK) »
If someone was found to be either physically or mentally unfit for duty would there be any military record in existence?

The fact, but almost certainly not the reason (unless it was obvious like the loss of a limb or two), would be in the service record (with MoD still as you are referring to WW2).

Thanks. If they were rejected at enlistment time would that still be recorded?

I know somebody who went through the full twelve weeks army training, received his cap and then was dismissed on medical grounds (I can't recall now whether it was flat feet or knees).  Once you've got your regimental number you'll be on the record.

If you do not know their service number is it possible to obtain their record from the MOD? Do they provide any search facility?

You do not need the service number to apply for the records from MOD; useful but not necessary.

However, there is no search facility but you need to know which service to apply to as the Royal Navy, the army and Royal Air Force keep records separately.

Not sure which service but will try the Army. He was an actor who hung out with some characters who were under surveillance by MI5 and I have seen the records at the NA. He had aliases which will also make things difficult.
