Findmypast has a record for him. Served 22 years up to 1901 then Great War service in UK in the Queens Royal West Surreys, Royal Defence Corps and an agricultural company of the Labour Corps to discharge in Sep 1918.

Long Service and Good Conduct Medal with gratuity 1897 (at the 18 year point by the look of it).

No he was 500194 in the Queens when he started again in Nov 1914.  No overseas service, no medals.
