Just to be difficult :)-there's also a John COLE on the 1851/61 in Thornbury with parents Charles and Har*t and lots of siblings.

I don't see John on the GRO but most of the others have mmn as STAFFORD.

Only reason I pointed him out is because on the 1881 census there is a Thomas COLE with father Charles further down on the same page as John and Ann.

And if that made any sense......

The Charles and Harriet Stafford marriage was at St Thomas, Northwick on 30 April 1834.  Neither signed the register, but both were single and of the parish.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
