I have an OPR birth entry for Nicoll Henry in 1768 and an
OPR marriage entry in 1796
and can't decipher the place name on either to be able to hopefully pinpoint them on old maps.
1768 Birth, 27 May Sandsting and Aithsting

1796 Marriage, 15 Dec, Walls, Sandness, Papa Stour and Foula
[
EDIT
- now resolved, thanks Trish]

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Thanks Trish, I didn't think of Free Reg!
and yes, I can see Melby on a current map and other place names in that image are within the same area so that's super!
Hope the surgery went well and your eyes recover quickly. Take care.

Baptism place Borvaness, perhaps?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thanks for looking Forfarian, I've tried that and either its not right or the name has morphed into something else over the years as I can't see it in place names. It does start with B and ends in ness which means it was most probably a headland but there are oodles of those on the islands.
At least I know which parish, and its not vital but I do hate to be beaten :-)

If it is any help to you the Parish of Sandsting and Aithsting also contains the Islands of Little Papa and Vemently.

Thanks Dorrie, will extend the search to cover those
If all else fails I'll ask the archivist on Shetland, they are usually very helpful
