Two registrations for one death
« on: Monday 28 September 20 12:35 BST (UK) »
Alice Baker married Clarence Carr Houldsworth in 1933 in Manningham West Yorks. In 1972 she married Richard Patrick Gleeson in Claro, West Yorks.  I assume she had divorced Clarence because he died 1993.

When Alice died in 2004, there were two death registrations identical apart from the surname - one as Gleeson and one as Houldsworth. Not sure why???

Alice Gleeson age 91 born 5 Nov 1912
Death registered Mar 2004 Leeds RD
Register Number: G24C
District and Subdistrict: 092/1G
Entry Number: 78

Alice Houldsworth age 91 born 5 Nov 1912
Death registered Mar 2004 Leeds RD
Register Number: G24C
District and Subdistrict: 092/1G
Entry Number: 78

It's not two registrations.

It's one registration indexed twice, which must mean that two surnames were given on the death certificate.

One registration indexed twice.

The surname on the entry will be "Gleeson otherwise (or formerly known as) Houldsworth", or vice-versa.

The elapsed time is not material.  One of my aunts was married and widowed in 1944.  She re-married but then divorced in 1952.  She married a third time in 1954.  When she died in 1994 every one of her surnames was requested and recorded.
