The child of Florence Anne Rose
« on: Monday 05 October 20 13:40 BST (UK) »
Hope someone can give me some guidance on this one.

I have a relative Florence Anne Rose born approx 1881 in Warwickshire (I don't know exact details) but I find her on the 1891 census easily enough, with her parents Albert and Mary and siblings in Sydney Rd, Aston.

The family story is she had an illegitimate child that was possibly adopted. I found a Florence Annie Rose with a 7 months old child called Mabel Rose living in Leopold Street in the 1911 census which could well be them.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I could go next with this? Establishing I have the right child is obviously my first step. I think I know the father's name but would it be on the birth certificate if I ordered one for Mabel? And if I can prove Mabel is the child, where can I trace her next?

Any help greatly received.

Thanks
Steve

There would be no Fathers name on the Birth Cert as she was illeg.

ROSE, MABEL  FLORENCE     -  no mothers mn
GRO Reference: 1910  S Quarter in SOLIHULL  Volume 06D  Page 642

The B/C would have her exact dob which you could then use to try and find her on 1939 register.
Just using her first name only.

Trish :)

My gut tells me she married 1932 Warwickshire to Thomas NOXON
Under Florence and Mabel F HOLDER

Looking at 1939 register her dob would fit with a Sept Qtr 1910 Birth Reg.

I looked for a Mabel F c 1910 and then eliminated them until I came up with the above one.

Hi Trish. I suspected that about the birth certificate. I couldn't for the life of me remember when father's name became compulsory/not compulsory? I'm happy to buy it but fearful of going on the wrong track but as you say, it would give me an exact dob to look in 1939.

LadyH, yes that baptism fits for Florence as she was born late 1881 Bromsgrove. Thank you. I thought the family were already in Aston but they weren't.

Problem is I don't know for cast iron certainty if the daughter was even called Mabel. I'm only surmising so because there is a 1911 census that fits the mother's name, assumed location, dob and being single with a young child on board. Her place of birth shows as Northfield, which I suppose isn't a million miles from Bromsgrove and Lickey.

Do you know where was Florence in 1901?

Did Florence Anne Rose get married?

I think she is the servant with the Ward family in Speedwell Rd, Kings Norton. (Ref 2814 folio 18 page 28) and we don't think she ever married. But not certain of either of these facts.
