we don't think she ever married.

I wondered as there's a marriage registered Birmingham in 1917 for a
Florence A ROSE and a death reg Birmingham in 1933 (no middle initial) this Florence was aged 50 (born c 1883)

Her middle name is Annie just found them on the Midlands, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965
years 1925/1930 address 2 back 26 Sherbourne Road- no Mabel with them

Is there any chance Mabel took Florence's husband surname?

There is a marriage on FreeBMD Dec 1928 Dudley but no middle name for Mabel -
edit to add
probably not same person if correct person found in 1939 her year of birth is different

Having taken advice (its an inlaw tree ;)) Florence did marry, 1917 sounds about right and although we don't know her married name she did pass away early 1930s so that would seem to fit. What is the married name on that one LadyH?

Thanks LadyH.

I think her daughter - I'm assuming the Mabel from the 1911 entry - had been given up for adoption before Florence met and married Thomas Siviter. I'm not sure how I can trace her if so as her surname could be different and potentially even her first name. I think her bc with dob on is about my only way forward.

Morning!

So I received the birth cert of Mabel Florence Rose which gave me a birth date of 3rd September 1910. And as suspected the father's name is blank. It shows her birth place as 1 Lode Lane Solihull which I suspect is Solihull Hospital as that is on Lode Lane. Interestingly - and happily as it confirmed I have the right birth - an address of 36 Coldbath Road, Billesley Common, Yardley is given. And that is where her sister's family is to be found in the 1911 census so Florence was living with her sister's family at the time of birth.

My aim now is to find a Mabel in the 1939 with the right dob.

From a social history point of view, I found it interesting that in 1911 Florence is a servant in a household, despite having a 7 month old illegitimate child. I wonder how accepting that would be to an employer at that time? And also, as it's believed Florence gave her daughter up for adoption, doing so at least 7 months after birth would seem unusual? Always so many questions  :)
