I am trying to find whether George Roper Sinclair (1900-1975) had any children and whether there are any living descendants.
From searching on Ancestry I have found several Electoral Registers which gave his most recent address in 1963, 1969 and 1972 as 175 Springfield Road, St Albans, NZ where he was registered with his wife, Gladys Esther (nee Withers). They were married in 1925. I believe he died in 1975 (source - Find My Past website).
George Roper Sinclair was in fact born as George Roper Burns in 1900 in Yorkshire, England. His mother, Esther Burns, married James Sinclair in 1903 in Glasgow, Scotland and they emigrated to New Zealand some time before 1908, when their son, Archibald Alexander Sinclair, was born there.
On the 1901 census, Esther Burns, a single woman, was working as a housekeeper for George Roper in Mexborough, Yorkshire and had a 5 month old child, George Roper Burns. Although no father is named on George Roper Burns' Birth Certificate, his identity is fairly clear!
I suspect that George Roper also fathered an illegitimate daughter in 1904 who went on to become my husband's grandmother. She was adopted and we have no information about her, but DNA matching has strongly implied that George Roper or one of his brothers was her father. Thus, if I could find a living descendant of George Roper who was willing to be tested, we could estimate the closeness of the relationship and probably confirm the hypothesis that he was the most likely candidate.
Thanks to anyone who can give us any help with this.
