Getting matches from 3 generations
« on: Thursday 08 October 20 14:02 BST (UK) »
I've had my first set of matches from a grandmother her son and grandson !

This is very useful for comparisons

I have no children but hope to persuade a nephew or neice to test

Had anyone else had good results via 3 generations of matches

These three connect to my 3gggfather William JONES of Denbighshire b 1784

grandmother is 3c 1 r  matches at 33cm
Son                                                      22cm
& grandson       4C 1r                         8cm

Our trees dont have the same wife
so maybe  he had two wives & we are actually descended from
half cousins

Other dna links to Williams sons edward b 1823 and joseph b1827 *

Paperwork identifying JONES is often hard to find so its great to have dna confirmation that we have correct individuals

I contacted someone a little while ago through FT-DNA, and found not only did I match with her, but also her father, her aunt (father's sister), her daughter and her grandson. Five people over 4 generations. She turned out to be both my 6th cousin and 7th cousin once removed, due to a cousin marriage way back. One relative married his first cousin's daughter (they were of similar age).
Really useful and we identified a number of people outside her immediate family that we both matched to, so it filled in a lot of gaps.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Yes, bridgidmac,

I’ve got several examples of this in my DNA matches.

My most frustrating one, (because it’s on my paternal ‘Brickwall’ side) is to a man in Ontario. I match to him, his nephew and his grandson, and so do my sister, daughter and paternal 1st cousins. But, - we can’t work out how...!!

Romilly.

That's fantastic Lizzie

Romily I'm sure you will work it out eventually

I've made breakthru with previously unconnected matches who connected with each other turned out to be via premarital  adopted grandchildren of mutual ancestor both sides knew adoptees mother's name but not grandparents ...
How high is your match ?

Update . My nephew tested so I now have 3 generations of my own to compare not to mention a cousin from each of my mother's sisters .

Definitely shows big differences of who inherits what

I like this illustration

Also have a JONES match from further down the line ( common ancestors great great grandparents)who has a son granddaughters&  great great  nephew & great great niece who have tested .

His first " cousin " whose birth father was unknown can be assured of his lineage because the cm amounts match the range to each generation
It's interesting to compare which generations match

Not had three generations in my results.

I have a couple of parent and child matches who have tested and the child has over 2x the cM shared with me than their parent has.

As they are on my Irish line finding where the probable cross pollination took place in the child’s line is a tad problematic,
