Whitefoord House Cannongate Edinburgh
« on: Monday 12 October 20 22:42 BST (UK) »
I believe that my great uncle James Jackson came back from WW1 suffering from shellshock and was given a place at Whitefoord House, a residence for ex service men in Edinburgh. Does anyone know if records exist for the residents (he would have gone there sometime from 1914 onwards and died in 1923)
Many thanks

I don't know but you could try sending an email to  info@svronline.org   They are responsible for Whitefoord House these days and may be able to help you.

If there are records they will be probably still be covered by the 100 year rule and you will need to wait until 2023 at the earliest before you can access them.

There is a memorial at the Eastern Cemetery in Edinburgh and although the picture available on the web is not that clear, the names are arranged in date of death order.   There appears to be a Jackson of the 1st Bat.Welch Regiment in 1923

Last name   Jackson
Age   40
Birth year   1872
Birth town   Edinburgh
Birth county   Midlothian
Birth country   Scotland
Service number   3850

Unit / Battalion   1st Battalion
Year   1912
Residence town   Edinburgh
Residence county   Midlothian
Residence country   Scotland

There was an illegitimate birth 13 February 1871 to Catherine Jackson, Domestic Servant, of a James Campbell Jackson.    No father named,  as was the case on the death certificate.
