Mortimer - Aberdeen 1940
« on: Wednesday 21 October 20 09:50 BST (UK) »
Hi All

More research again....

James Mortimer - died 1940
Mary Ann Niven - died 1922 (childbirth). Alford Aberdeenshire
Married 1906 in Aberdeen

They had 2 sons, 1 daughter as far as I can tell

James - B 1906
Benjamin - B. 1909
Lilias - B. 1915

Trying to establish if they had any more family between 1906 - 1922 I may have missed

Thanks

Alan

SP index lists 4 deaths of Mortimers, mother's surname Niven

James, 80, Haymarket, 1987
Benjamin Niven, 79, St Andrew, 1989
Mary Jane Niven, 85, Glasgow, 2001
Lilias Niven, 95, Aberdeen, 2010

There's a birth of Mary Jane Niven Mortimer in Rubislaw, in 1916.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

As you probably know the family were at St Machar in 1911 but the wife of James is noted as Mary Jane. There is also a family of Mortimer's in Alford in 1911.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Hi ColC

Rewind.

James Mortimer married Mary Jane Niven in 1906

Son james born 1906, Benjamin 1909, Lilas 1915, Mary Jane 1916

Mary Jane Mortimer (Niven) died 1949

The 1922 was a red herring, and were related to the Aberdeen Mortimer's.... All the men seemed to work on the railway.

That said, When Mary Jane Niven Mortimer married in 1942, says both Father (james) and Mother Mary are deceased (thought she died in 1949?)
