Hi there, Lovely to meet you all and TIA for reading:
I've been researching my paternal great-grandmother's side, and I'm just totally stuck on finding any trace of her parents. currently using findmypast.
so my great grandmother's name is Maud Shepherd, b. 1895, Hull, on her online birth record her mother's maiden name is Fairfax. (no other info available on it.) I can find no trace of where she lived or any other details of her parents at this time,
I found a really interesting marriage record to my great grandfather, Charles Hargraves in 1914 - all the details on this record match him and his family, though at this time Maud's Surname is Turnbull and is a spinster (already at 19!) and names her father as deceased as Ernest turnbull. interestingly, both charles and maud at this time live at the same address according to this certificate, but I don't know how to verify this.
I can find no records to Maud marrying anyone named Turnbull, nor managed to find a potential match to Ernest turnbull being step-father. (it has crossed my mind she was telling porkies, but I'm trying to stick to the fact that i'm just being a very inexperienced researcher!)
The only time i have ever found Maud on a census is the 1939 one, and it was through a search of a street name my dad gave me that i struck upon it yesterday - and charles and Maud's names were transcribed wrong (charles was 'clark' and Maud was 'Karl'!! ) all the details on this record matched the children who were living with them at this time, and also Charles' occupation.
Is this a dead end for finding Maud's parents or not? i think the only other step I haven't taken yet is actually buying a birth certificate to see what other info is on it, but I'm just concerned i will find nothing new and it would be a waste of money. would be interested on knowing if it was worth ordering one?
Thanks for reading!
