CdV of small child, date please?

I really can't work out what this child is supposed to be wearing 

I have one other CdV by McAllan on this cardstock, which was dated to late 1860's.

Was this vignette style being used at this time?

Any help with dating would be valued.  Many thanks

I would say this was late 60s early 70s Jen.

I have a very similar  CdV that Jim, (about 10ish years ago)  dated as 1860s.

I love the expression on their face, they don't look too happy

I keep seeing that hat as a cap worn sideways but that can’t be right. 

I was wondering if the hat and scarf/wrap could be traditional clothing from another country - Turkey? Morocco? He doesn’t seem to be wearing a full costume though. Might they be a photographer’s prop?

I imagine they were props. I thought there might be a cockade on the side of the headgear?
Is it some sort of faux-Scottish outfit?
For some reason I also thought it was a boy.
