William or Thomas Franklin, Wrawby
« on: Wednesday 04 November 20 16:36 GMT (UK) »
I have a William Franklin and Mary as parents to 9 children, all baptised Wrawby Independent, Lincolnshire between 1804 and 1813.  The scan of a register - but not the original register is available on Ancestry.  There are also entries for 4 more children from 1815 to 1822 at the same chapel to Thomas and Mary Franklin, nee Cooper (Scans also available).  Thomas (or another Thomas of about the same age) remarries 2 Nov 1841 to Mary Cole, 30 years his junior. They have 3 more children 1844, 1846 and 1850 - Thomas is now 69.  Mary marries William Girdham in 1852 … In 1861 census William and Mary “Gerdhar” have Mary A Franklin 1846, and Elizabeth Franklin 1850, both Mary’s daughters by Thomas.
Could this be an error - is William actually Thomas? I am pointed in this direction because
•   I cannot find any reference to William, other than this Baptism book.
•   One of the “William” children - John, named a son Cooper.
•   The marriage between Thomas and Mary Cooper was in 1803
•   I cannot find a suitable marriage for William and Mary.
Does anyone have access to the Wrawby Independent original register…….please!
Thanks in anticipation
Kath

Many thanks for your suggestion, but I cannot find these baptisms.  I have found other records to verify, so it has been, and will continue to be useful - I do have quite a lot of people in Lincolnshire.  The ones I want are Wrawby Independent, and they aren't there, or I can't find them - as I know the dates I am looking for, I assume I haven't missed anything.
Just keep looking

Lincolnshire record office only appear to have the Non conformist registers though not online.  The copies on Ancestry are the same records and probably all that are available. This type of register often listed children in batches, they are often even more helpful by stating who the maternal grandparents are.

Thank you for following this up.  Unfortunately no Grandparents. I do have one more piece of (supporting my theory_) information; John our ancestor, on the "William" list married Helen Parrot, whose mother was Phoebe Chapman - Chapman being the name given to their second son, having already named the first one after his (possible) mother. A bit of a coincidence if wrong.
Keeping my eyes open for further clues - pity about the baptism records!

Latest News - just found a scan of John and Helen's marriage certificate, with his father named as Thomas!  Success.

Larkspur, thanks for looking. I have 13 children now I have William and Thomas as the same person - not including 3 more from another marriage.  Most baptisms are covered.
