Blackburn Fossil, this isnt Herbert but it is his brother, my great great grandfather, Maria was his wife.

Kay, I think you are right, thank you. Ive spoken to my dads cousin who tells me he visited them as a child in Devon.

Thank you both, Luke

May Lees, 08/05/1919, died in Teignbridge in 2002.

Tree on Ancestry has her as surname Ralph.  What surname did her mother marry Herbert, and what was Anita's mmn?

Marriage of Herbert to May Ralph in Birmingham in 1940?

Added:
Sorry - I had read that Anita was the daughter of May and Herbert, but on rereading I am not sure what you mean.  Where and when was she born?

In 1930 ER's there are George and May Hartshorne living at 895 Stratford Road.

In 1957 Herbert and May Wood are living with May Hartshorne at 1939 address (1362(a) Stratford Road).

There is a tree on Ancestry that has the daughter as Mikki, not the Mother.  Which one is it?
