Edinburgh Eveninng News of 5 May 1915 also has a report of four Broxburn lads of 2 Seaforths wounded at Hill 60 including (then) Private John Mackay.
A report of the same thing in the West Lothian Courier of 7 May said he had been injured in the previous October (links with Shaun's find) and importantly perhaps said he lived at Mid Street.

His boot size was 8 (no, I made that bit up)  :)

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

had a look at valuation rolls for mid street
nothing there that helps
only mackay i can see in news papers
is of higher rank,
i m fairly certain shaun's fined 18/10/1914 is him
theres a 1915 incident i ve never been able to view
then 10/11/1916 that gives his residing town as glasgow
he still had familly in glasgow he s a lance corporal by this time
1917 must be on holiday no woundings i can find
then it 21/3/1918 sergeant now last wounding
you found the details for me,
sometime between 1915 incidentand 1916 he goes from 2nd seaforth to the 7th seaforth
becomes a lance corporal i believe that was later than july 1916,
in 1928 he marries illigitimately his son from that marriage later becomes i think its Lt Colonel in a transport divison he s awarded MBE donald h elsey,
he has quite a story thats why i m so keen to fill it in he was my grandfathers brother,
he was a piper so i gather thats the reason for so many woundings
