Wilfred Appleyard (should be Wilfrid Firth Appleyard) was my grandfather.  He enlisted on 18 November 1915, was mobilised on 22 March 1916, and died, along with 8 Officers and 216 others from his Battalion, at Le Sars.

The War Diary states " 7 October - 2.10 pm.  Battalion attacked trenches to the left of Le Sars.  Objective achieved and held, losses heavy."

Wilfrid was my grandfather and was aged 33 when he died.  He left a widow, Maria (Milner) and a daughter, Marian.  The family came from Halifax, West Riding.
