Marriage outside the permitted bounds Ayres-Ayres
« on: Sunday 08 November 20 19:01 GMT (UK) »
At sometime in the late 18th century the oldest son of one of my Ayres ancestors married his aunt, who was the youngest daughter of her husband's grandfather. The marriage therefore would be Ayres to Ayres, but though I recall entering it some years ago, I am quite unable to find it. I am wondering if the cause is the susceptibilites of Legacy or an error by myself? Anyone help please.

Cambridgeshire marriages on FindMyPast, limited search to Bottisham.
I can see two Stubbing(s) and some others.  None are an Ayres Ayers marriage up to 1822.
Might she have been widowed and you have mislaid that part?

1786 Edward (of Horningsea) m Jane VENT. At Bottisham. Jane Recorded as a widow in the Banns, but single in the marriage.

I have to go out. Will continue later if no one else gets on to it in the meantime.

So it seems Jane Vent was née Petchey so that  rules her out.

I cannot see any Ayres/Ayres or variant marriages in Bottisham at end of 18th century.

However there is this one, which is later, but might be the one you remember

3 Aug 1855 John Ayres  b about 1834 son of William a sawyer, married Mary (of a Bottisham Lode) d of William a labourer at Bottisham.

Thanks for that. I think it is, but it seems rather late. Perhaps my memory is going?
