McDermott Edward Sligo 19yrs of age in 1911 census
« on: Monday 09 November 20 23:07 GMT (UK) »
Edward McDermott - I am trying to find out any information about Edward he married in Enniskerry Church Co. Wicklow to Eva Hussey in 1917. They had one child about two years of age when they emigrated to Canada (I think). They never got back in touch with their family to let them know they arrived even. I assume they emigrated around 1921.
Edward lived in 38 Lord Edward Street Sligo and he was a solider based in Beggers Bush Dublin when he got married. I am unsure if the information about Edward living in Sligo is correct but it is all I have to go on for now.

Start with the facts to trace Edward back further.

Do you think I should look at James Quinn? he was a witness at the wedding...he may have been a friend of his though in the army. I think that is the right family as the father was a bootmaker. The mother died young and I see that they had a lodger then later on.

Since there are no identifying details (other than name) for James Quinn it is unlikely you will be able to find out much about him.

The only Edward McDermott in 1911 cnsus that was 19 and from Sligo is this one but his father was Thomas (a farmer)-

Are you also trying to trace Edward, wife and child after they left Ireland?

And in 1901-

Eva's birth- 19 Apr.1896 Dublin-

According to an online tree (which may or may not be accurate) Edward died 1969 Canada and Eva died c1949 (to Canada 1935).

Could they have met through Eva's brother Patrick Hussey who was in the Royal Munsters and Royal Irish Regiments circa 1914 to 1922 described as L/Sgt Exemplary on discharge July 1922
He also reinlisted in France 22nd Jan 1919

Thank you for all of this, I will look at the soldiers now to see if Edward is there. I think Eva was married first so maybe my Grandfather met my Grandmother through Eva's husband Edward.
