"Mercers" Brentor
« on: Thursday 12 November 20 08:18 GMT (UK) »
"Mercer's Pool" was a large, natural pool in the river Burn that flowed past ( and still flows past)  Brentor, and it was a popular venue in the period of my youth (late 1940s/ early 1950s) during the long hot summers that only occurred during those halcyon days of memory.

I have no idea why it was so called. Is there any record of a person / family of that name with any connection with Brentor during the period, say, between 1930-1950? It is  not a name that is known to me in any other local context.

Have you looked on facebook for a group local to that area to ask your question, they could even have a picture of it?

e.g.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/BrentorLydfordMaryTavyHub

and ignore the potatoes for sale, etc.

Or if you do not use facebook:

I can see the River Burn flowing alongside the railway - do you recall where the pool was?

Thank you for your prompt response, Chempat.
I do not use Facebook and I hope to include reference to "Mercer's" in an article I am preparing for the village site.

Mercers was down stream from Wortha Mill,  as the river passed Brinsabatch Farm.

I can post on that facebook group if you want, making you completely anonymous?

Yes, that's it.
Mercers was on the sweeping bend in the river beside field 76.

If it is not too much of an imposition, I would appreciate it if you posted an appeal on Facebook. Many thanks.
