Ann Forster & Leonard Armstrong
« on: Tuesday 17 November 20 21:01 GMT (UK) »
I hope everyone is keeping well and occupied with genealogy during lockdown! I was hoping someone might be able to help please

I have Ann Forster marrying Leonard Armstrong in Chollerton 14 Jan 1790.

I believe Ann Forster to be born in Hexham to Thomas Forster & Ann Bell, but not sure how to prove this. Can anyone link the 2 things, and is there a birth / baptism record anywhere for Ann?

Secondly, what other children did Thomas Forster & Ann Bell have, they were married 16 May 1765 in Hexham

Thank you, Christian

Thank you, yes, those are the dates I have for Leonard. He died at Ramshaws Mill near Wark, so that would fit. So that then gives me a year of birth for Ann. Is there a headstone / where did you get the info please?

I found the following Baptism earlier.

Leonard Armstrong 18/03/1759 Simonburn, Northumberland, father William

I did note that Leonard & Ann had seven sons at Ramshaws Mill.

I could not find any info on the Thomas & Ann at Hexham or a suitable Ann any where near to Hexham. There are others in the County.

Colin

Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Burial possibility at Simonburn?
30 Jan 1892
Wm. Son of Leonard Armstrong of Chipchase Mill
BT
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-DCPQ-CK7?i=14

From the Chollerton BTs, the last couple of baptisms to Leonard and Ann do say Leonard Armstrong, Miller, native of Simonburn, by his wife Ann Forster, native of Hexham.
BT of Henry's baptism in 1798
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-67ZS-GLJ?i=36

Earlier baptisms say they were of Chipchase Mill.

Parents Leonard and Ann Armstrong

Don't think there is a BT for that one.

Thank you, yes, the family were at Chipchase Mill after Ramshaws Mill, and Longlee Mill before Ramshaws.
The death of William son of Leonard in 1792 must be my missing 7th son I think, Colin will hopefully confirm. I have a William born in 1793, this must be his older brother who died a year earlier and they named the next son William too.

Thank you for the info on the baptisms re Ann Forster, native of Hexham. This helps to confirm my theory. So I have a location and a year of 1766, but not baptism record putting her to Thomas Forster and Ann Bell....

This is interesting, from an old Rootschat thread
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=698319.54

Thomas Forster 1729-1804 a Catholic yeoman farmer of Watch Currock Farm, Hexham married at St Andrew's CoE, Hexham 1765, Ann Bell 1741-1813.

Ann Forster, widow, of Watch Currock, Hexham died in 1813 and left a Will at York in which she mentions daughters, Ann Armstrong, Elizabeth Forster (married woman, wife of George Forster), Mary Hutchinson, MARGERY BATY, Jane Kirsopp, Dorothy Hall, Margaret Forster and FRANCES BARRON.

Despite all 8 daughters mentioned only baptismal records for 4 have survived. They are:

i)   Ann Forster , baptised 1766 at Cockshaw R.C Chapel, Hexham.
ii)  Jane Forster, baptised 1775 at The Dominican R.C Chapel, Hexham.
iii) Margaret Forster , baptised 1780 at The Dominican R.C Chapel, Hexham.
iv) FRANCES FORSTER, baptised 1786 at The Dominican R.C Chapel, Hexham.
