Name of Photographer
« on: Sunday 22 November 20 12:25 GMT (UK) »
I'm not holding out much hope for this, but we really need to know the name of this photographer, whether it was in London or New Zealand. That would help identify the person in the photo.

If you can see any reference to the place name that would be perfect.

Because it looks to be embossed, would it not work to make a rubbing in the same way as with a gravestone?  Probably best to use light pressure only with a soft pencil.

Disclaimer:  I'm just thinking aloud - I haven't done it myself and don't know what potential there is for the photo to suffer damage.

Good suggestion. Unfortunately it's just a scanning, but I can try to locate the owner maybe.

I tried inverting the colours.  It's a little better.

Maybe:   C.? E. ?et & Son?

Thanks, it looks a little better. The lady doing this family with me lives in New Zealand, and if she can recognise a place name that would crack it! The photographer would have to be based in New Zealand for the photo to be identified.

I tried inverting and sharpening - a little clearer maybe.

Agree with HD but maybe C.E. Glurieti & Son  - or Gruet . . . . or is it  a fancy  'Y'  or 'F'    :-\ :-\

And the next line could end in ellat(e) . .

Lots of guessing really  ;)

The people we think are in the photo lived in Christchurch and there's a baby in the picture which would date it 1926.

Canterbury Museum might know

There is a list of photographers on left hand side of this page. If you click “more” there is quite a long list. But I cannot make any of the names fit the shape of your image.
