Patrick McLaughlin Ballycastle
« on: Wednesday 25 November 20 14:38 GMT (UK) »
Hello can anyone point me in the right direction.
I am trying to obtain the exact date of birth for Patrick McLaughlin in order that I can apply for a birth certificate.
Limited Army records shows that Patrick was born in 1880 in Ballycastle County Antrim, other records suggest that it could be plus or minus by about one year.
I know that he died in France on 27-10-1914, ( Service number 5736, 2nd BTN RIR).  I have no details for his parents.
Any advice please would be greatly appreciated. thanks
McLaughlin (Ballycastle, Omagh, Holywood). Kerr (Derry), Simpson (Antrim) Maguire (Fermanagh)

You don't need to order a birth certificate (unless you need a certified copy for legal reasons, etc.).

Do you know the parents or any other details to confirm any certificate found is for the correct person?

There are 13 Patrick McLaughlins in Ballycastle registration district- closest is one born 1878- an illegitimate son of a Mary McLaughlin on 13 Sept.1878-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1878/02956/2082730.pdf
There are 3 in 1875...
I also checked for Unknown McLaughlins in case he was registered without a Christian name but nothing came close to 1880.

Added- might have something about him downstairs so will post if I do find something.

Decided not to wait in case I'd forget and it was the story that I remembered ;)

Patrick McLaughlin in 1911 with wife Catherine & son-

Sadly, Catherine died a short while after Patrick, aged 28 years, leaving 5 children-

The marriage gives his father as Patrick McLaughlin-

Catherine died as the result of childbirth. Here's the youngest child born 1915-

Thanks so much to aghadowey and Kiltaglassan for the quick replies and links.
This is indeed the Patrick I was looking for. I was trying to get his exact DOB in order to get his birth certificate in order to hopefully get some details on one or both of his parents and therefore another branch to the tree…. At least I have his dads name now.
If this helps with other searches, I know that William was of the Protestant faith , possibly church of Ireland as he is remembered in Ramoan Church of Ireland Ballycastle as someone from the Parish who died in WW1 – I have tried there but they have no records of him, he is also remembered on Ballycastle’s War Memorial.

Sorry but you may not have his father's name. IF he's the illegitimate birth in 1878 then he might have given father's name as Patrick McLaughlin even if it wasn't his father (could be grandfather, uncle, stepfather, mother's partner or just a made-up name).

If the 1878 Patrick is correct then this is likely the William B. Black accused of being the child's father-
Probate of the Will of William Boyes Black late of Ballycastle County Antrim Auctioneer and General Merchant who died 9 October 1897 at Bath County Somerset granted at Belfast to Sarah Jane Black of Ballycastle Widow. (Will covers 7 pages)
Administration (with the Will) of the Unadministered Estate of William Boyes Black late of Ballycastle County Antrim Auctioneer and General Merchant who died 9 October 1897 at Bath County Somerset granted at Belfast to Robert Charles Black Merchant

Patrick McLaughlin mentioned in Ballycastle Heroes (more details in book) as well as William Boyes Black's son Harold-
