Heywood -- that marriage seems to fit more with the age of the groom (if his approx baptism records are the correct Patrick). The later ones found means he was quite mature for a first marriage in those days.

The surname of that bride may be Mechan, or Meehan.

It is transcribed as Mechan on Ancestry but I thought it read Meehan as with the witnesses.

There is a baptism to that couple, Julia, 21st February 1831 - mother transcribed as Mechan again but again looks like Meehan to me.

There would likely be more children up to 1841 before Alice and Jane are born  :-\ and of course they would have been married a very long time before Thomas’ birth.

It was the handwriting itself, which looked like Mechan to me -- BUT I am going for a cataract op next week so I am probably wrong!

I think it could be ‘c’, ‘a’, or ‘e’.
Best wishes for the op, Pennines.

Ahh  Heywood, thank you for your good wishes AND I can look forward to having the other eye done some time after that - so anyone else other than me, is likely to be correct on deciphering old records!

You guys are amazing!! That marriage fits ! I honestly don't know how you find these things but with the first baptism (that made more sense than the other even before finding this marriage) meant he was 22.

Thank you so much! You have been invaluable, I'm hoping I can track more down the Irish route - hope I'm not here in another 6 months asking for help with the same name haha!

There is no guarantee that the marriage is the right couple.
The records are quite early - there will be parish records that have not survived or not online etc.
The birth you have is in Cork.
Jane in the census gave Limerick as her place of birth.
