Kilmuir is less than a mile south of Dunvegan along the Loch.

Annie - John Bruce, fisherman and Sarah Lamond. Informant daughter. I have not found any records to confirm. Checked 1841,1851 census as per ev. 29 Bruces in Kilmuir in 1841. 8 in 1851. None look good for parents.

Unfortunately he died before 1891 census but I find your suggestion about gaelic convincing. I think I can stop searching for Kerrymuir on old maps.

If he was born on Skye it would likely be Bracadale which is south of Kilmuir.  A large contingent of Bruce's hailed from that area and many families there were evicted and moved north into Vaternish (Waternish) which was more friendly to Crofters.  As far as BMD's are concerned they are very spotty pre 1830, the problem was attracting Gaelic speaking Ministers to the isles.

Was his mother Sarah Bruce, Maiden Name Lamond or Sarah Lamond?

What were the names of Malcolm & Ann' children in order which may be a clue to parentage too?

Sarah/Marion are interchangeable.

Hi,

Mother Sarah Bruce ms Lamond but from DC so ....

Marriage 1833 in Newtyle.

Children as far as I know were Jess 1832, George Kinloch 1834, Margaret 1836, Mary 1838, Isabela 1840, John 1842, James 1844, David 1846.

Following generations did not seem to follow Scottish naming convention.

It looks like the names of the children aren't any help going by the names on the DC.

What were Ann's parents names?

This provides a more comprehensive list of the cemeteries although not complete.  There are a few which no longer exist wiped away by the weather.
