Coxon - Longbenton and Newcastle-upon-tyne
« on: Sunday 06 December 20 03:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to trace any information on a Francis Coxon (1798-1866) and his child George Coxon (b1822-1892). George Emigrated to Australia in 1957 where I am a descendent.

I have Francis born at Longbenton and dying at Newcastle upon tyne, and marrying Mary Harbit (1801-1865) with  6 children - George (1822), Hannah Coxon (1829), Francis (1834), Thomas (1838), Israel (1840) and William (1844). However, I have a question mark of they had a few more children - namely Mary (1823), John Harbit (b1820), Francis (1831 died young), Margaret Brearley (1817). Also I am also interested in any other info such as  Francis and Mary's parents, occupations etc etc and Georges upbringing before he emigrated to Australia

Thanks  - Bec

Hi Rebecca

You have mistyped. I assume you mean your ancestors came to Australia in 1857 not 1957.

Trove may help you fill in details of the voyage and their time in Australia.

1841 1851 1861 1871 and 1881 UK censuses might fill in details of the missing children.

Due to covid, many state libraries and genealogical societies are offering free access to library versions of ancestry and findmypast etc which have the censuses and you can even join state libraries on-line for free.

Many Australian archives already are on-line and offer digital records free.

National Archives of England and Wales digital records are free due to covid.
Some refer to county record office records and so can not be got direct and some are not yet digitised but other things are. ==

go to site -- find what you want -- add to basket -- make sure you are registered ie just email and a password == login -- go to pay for basket -- make sure you say you agree to terms and hey presto the digital records are in your email.
all free if sign in -- 10 items per basket and 100 items in 30 days.

You also posted in the chatroom. It is separate to the board. We speak live there so next time stay and chat.
