Using Scotlandspeople.....I am not seeing this marriage. Can you identify it please -

"... Alexander Paul.....married Isabella Stewart in 1892 in Aberdeenshire."

What is your source for believing that they married.......the year of the marriage....and the place of the marriage.

What does his birth certificate, marriage or his death certificate say about his parents?
Family search has parents as Alexander Paul and Mary Ingram, birth 23 Feb 1871 Keithhall.
In 1881 census he is with his grandparents William and Jane Ingram in Keithhall, Aberdeen.

Like Wivenhoe I can't see a marriage for the couple on Scotlands People either

I did notice that  a family tree on Anc that lists an Alexander Paul born 1871 Keithhall, Aberdeenshire who married an Annie Masson on  2 Apr 1892 at Woodside, Aberdeenshire and he is listed as dying in 1953 at Illinois, USA   :-\

TGB, the first thing you need to do is go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, invest in a few credits and use some of them to look at that 1892 marriage certificate to see whether he is indeed the son of Alexander Paul and Mary Ingram.

There's an unmarried farm servant named Alexander Paul, aged 19, born Keithhall, in the 1891 census at Crownie Hillock, Savoch who is likely to be yours.

I have failed so far to find him in the 1901 census in Scotland, and I have also failed to find a death of Ann* Mas*on, other surname Paul, in Scotland.

I wondered if they might have left Scotland soon after their marriage, Annie died young, and Alexander then married Isabella Stewart.

Where did your information about his marriage to Isabella Stewart and his death in 1953 come from? Where did he die? What else do you know about him?

Yes, that looks like them, Kay99.

TGB, a look on Scotland's People at the birth certificate of one of the children would verify that. Go for Oliver, as his is the most unusual name.

Three deaths of Pauls with mother's maiden surname Masson in the deaths indexes at SP. One is Alexander Paul, who died in Torphins in 1976 aged 77, so would be a perfect match for the two-year-old Alexander Paul in that census. Unfortunately you can't look at that death online as it's less than 50 years ago - you would have to order a copy to be sent to you, or wait until the Scotland's People Centre is open again and someone could look at it for you.

Also Elsie Paul, mother's maiden surname died in Dufftown in 1986, aged 92. Also too recent to view online.

If these are your family, it would suggest that the parents did not emigrate, and that the death in Illinois is someone entirely different. There is in fact a death of an Alexander Paul, aged 82, in Aberdeen in 1953. You can, and should, look at that certificate if you think he might be yours.

(Marion Paul or Farquhar, mother's maiden surname Masson, died in Elgin in 2007 aged 81. However this looks like a Marion Farquhar who married a Gregor Paul, so nothing to do with your Pauls.)
