Death of Sophia Purton nee White - Maisemore
« on: Wednesday 23 December 20 19:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,

Struggling to find the death of a Sophia Purton nee White.

She married a Benjamin Purton in 1779 in Haresfield, Gloucestershire and I think they had six kids together:

William Taylor - 1781, Haresfield
Mary - 1784, Maisemore
Joseph - 1789, Hartpury
Benjamin - 1792, Maisemore
Sophia - 1797, Maisemore
Richard - 1799, Maisemore

I have an apprenticeship record for a Benjamin Purton married to a Sophia in 1790 in Hartpury where he is listed as a Mantua Maker.

I think I have Benjamin's death/burial in 1807 Norton, Gloucestershire, which notes he is from Maisemore. I also think I have his birth in 1749, Norton Gloucestershire to a John & Mary.

I think I may have Sophia White's birth in 1754 Standish, Gloucestershire to a Joseph and Ann. A couple other people on ancestry have this on their own trees.

But neither them or me have found a death for her. It doesn't look like she remarries. 'Purton' has been a bit of a nightmare surname. It's been transcribed as: Parton, Porton, Pirton, Dirton, Pyrton and Pearton.

I think this might be a case of just not having it documented but maybe someone can work their magic.

Thanks for reading.

There is a Licence: dated 8 July 1749

Ann TAYLOR, 24, Spinster, residence: Bishops Cleeve

by Licence

Sworn before J GREGORY to marry at St Michael

---

That's interesting. I've also looked into Benjamin's parent's John and Mary:

1845, Norton Gloucestershire John Perton and Mary Taylor. I was thinking that's where William Taylor got his middle name but it looks like they had a Taylor on either side.

?  The Sophia PERTON aged 67 c 1741 buried at Maisemore 22 January 1808
Who is this Sophia, was the aged guessed at?  or incorrectly written down/misheard etc. as her husband was already dead.  Even census return ages can differ.

Benj and Sophia - had a son Benjamin PEARTON born 2 September 1792 and buried 18 May 1793.

Thanks for finding that, it never came up until I put the specifics in. It might be that the 1754 isn't right or it could be a mistake, come across a couple of those recently. Thanks again, I think that looks good. Most couples on my tree die around within a few years of each other.
