Jeane's surname
« on: Tuesday 05 January 21 18:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

Is anyone here able to work out the surname of the woman in the third marriage listed in this extract?

John Harte and Jeane Dillingcombe maybe?

Many Thanks

Matt

I would say Dillingcourte.

I agree.  The _rte combination at the end is identical to Harte (except for the length of the flourish on the e).

ADDED:

Compare the b in Elizabeth to the second last letter of the name in question.

Hi all

Thanks for all these suggestions. Dillingcombe and Dillingcourte were both names I had thought of, although I had originally been leaning more towards Dillingcombe.

Now that there are two options I'll see if I can find anyone else with name Dillingcourte or Dillingcombe in the same area at that time.

At least I can give the lady a surname on my tree even if nothing else.

Many Thanks

Matt
