James Taylor born 1817 Church Knowle
« on: Monday 11 January 21 17:12 GMT (UK) »
I have in my tree James Taylor born 1817 Church Knowle son of Robert Taylor 1769/1836 & Elizabeth Bartlett 1781/1832.
James married Mary born abt 1831 Bere Regis died Abt 1897. Do you know what her Surname is? I can’t find a marriage dock on Ancestry. I have looked on the Bere Regis site and the only one that fits is a Mary Gould born 1832. James & Mary had 7 children.
Many thanks

Were any of their children born after Civil registration started, if so have you checked for birth registrations on the GRO index as they should show mothers maiden surname

1871 census

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V5R9-WP5

Only likely birth reg I've found so far is for Emma in jun qtr 1871 Wareham with mmn Batrick.
Looking back there is also
Sophia Taylor Battrick dec qtr 1865 Wareham vol 5a pg 288

another possible?

Eliza Ann Bridle Battrick jun qtr 1860 Wareham vol 5a pg 300 mmn -
mother's maiden name is also blank on Sophia's birth registration

There's also a Charles Bridle Battrick 1855 & William Bridle Battrick 1856 & Henry James Battrick 1858 but their baptisms show mother as Keziah

Osprey that is the family. I don’t understand what you mean about the Battrick family.
Rosie99 I get very confused with the GRO index I never have much luck.
Its James Taylor’s wife’s maiden name I’m after all I know from census records is her first name is Mary and she came from Bere Regis

The 1861 census records a Henry I aged 3 & 1871 census Henry J aged 13 both occasions born Wareham.
There is a birth of a Henry in 1858 Wareham

TAYLOR, HENRY  JANSON     mmn TRENT
GRO Reference: 1858  S Quarter in WAREHAM  Volume 05A  Page 288.

Recorded on freebmd as possibly Henry Ianson

1851 census for James whilst married is not with family

Forget the Henry Ianson/Janson birth, he's the son of Thomas Taylor & Jane Trent who married in Poole 1849.

the way to find her maiden name is to look up the birth registrations of the children on the GRO website because it gives the maiden name of the mother. From the places of birth for the children, most of them should have been registered at Wareham.
But, there are no registrations showing up apart from
Emma Taylor june qtr 1871 Wareham mother's maiden name Batrick
George Taylor sept qtr 1862 Poole vol 5a pg 288 mother's maiden name Battrick

Sophia seems to have been registered as Sophia Taylor Battrick with no mother's maiden which suggests that the parents were not married.

When I was looking for this family, I came across this possible for James's parents

1841 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQYQ-MXS

1851 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SG2K-R3L

Their son James was baptised 11 April 1819 in Kimmeridge, the neighbouring parish to Church Knowle
