Is it possible to compile a family tree backwards?!!
« on: Tuesday 12 January 21 16:02 GMT (UK) »
Usually when you compile a family tree you start with yourself and work backwards - parents, grandparents, etc
I want to compile details in the opposite direction. Is there somewhere I can do this?
As a seperate tree I want to start with my great, great grandfather's sister and go down from there - listing her children, grandchildren, etc.
There is probably a very easy way to do it. but I can't find it!
Thanks

As long as you're starting from a known point, you can work forwards using the same resources - censuses, BMD etc.
Do you have her on any censuses?

Hi,
I understand I can add all the information I want, but it still displays the generations in the usual way. I want it to show children, then grandchildren.
I don't actually have her on a census (Freiderike Giessler nee Meinecke). I have her mother and sons:-
1871 census - Hull
William Gissler - head - unmarried - 28 - sailor - Bremen, Germny
Louis Gissler - brother - 10 - Bremen, Germany
Johanna Meinecke - grandmother - widow - 82 - Bekendein, Germany

William is actually Johan Freiderich Wilhelm Giesler

I have lots of information regarding the Giesler family and would like to put it in an easily readable form

I always think of my tree(s) that way.  What's the problem?
Wiltshire:  Banks, Taylor
Somerset:  Duddridge, Richards, Barnard, Pillinger
Gloucestershire:  Barnard, Marsh, Crossman
Bristol:  Banks, Duddridge, Barnard
Down:  Ennis, McGee
Wicklow:  Chapman, Pepper
Wigtownshire:  Logan, Conning
Wisconsin:  Ennis, Chapman, Logan, Ware
Maine:  Ware, Mitchell, Tarr, Davis

Not all programs display the descendants chart, which seems to be what is called for here.

Technically, there's no issue in doing the research, just finding a good display of it.

Yes  you can.  You want to display your stored  information as a descendant tree/report etc.   Not at all unusual.

What software are you using?
