Uniform I.D. please?
« on: Wednesday 13 January 21 14:43 GMT (UK) »
Family legend is that James Russell was in the 8th King's Liverpool Regt possibly also went under alias Michael Cooper
It is assumed the child is his Son John born 1893 which seems to date photo 1896/97 ?

Uniform doesn't appear to be King's.

Is it Royal Irish or Hussars ?

Any advice appreciated.

He appears to be wearing a 1902 Pattern Service Dress tunic.
Therefore your date of 1896/97 is not possible.

No expertise with uniforms but I think he looks (in the face) a lot more "modern" than someone in the 1800's if that makes sense.

Hi
There are several military records online that could be him given his age and a couple with his alias mentioned,
Looks possibly like several stints in the army from 1870 s onward but i can t quite equate them all together.

I agree it looks like a WW1 photo. His uniform includes the Inkerman whistle and chain so he was in  a light infantry regiment.

Thanks everyone Mystery appears solved now with your knowledge and input.
The Family now remember stories of their Dad in a Velvet Suit being photographed with their Granddad
 in Uniform around WW1 period.
They think owner of the Photo noted the rear of the photo with the previous generation wrongly.
