Dixon
« on: Friday 15 January 21 19:48 GMT (UK) »
Hello from Canada

Looking forward Thomas Dixon 1800 and Bridget 1818 ( ? MAiden name) Dixon came to Canada before 1851 with 2 children Micheal and Mary Elizabeth 1846.

Only clue I have is an old obituary that says we’re from Springfield Castlerea Roscommon.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a road called Springfields just to the west of Castlerea. It might be named after the area you mentioned (?). On the Tithe Apploment records and Griffiths valuations there are no areas mentioned with the name 'Springfields'.

Thank you. It may help. Too bad there are no real good records in Ireland.

Thanks from Canada

Hi

There may well be records, but we’d need some more information.

What religion was Thomas?

Also did he have any other children, as they may have been named after relatives.

Regards

You haven't given a religious denomination but if they were RC, then the closest parish would be Kilkeevin.
Diocese of Elphin | County of Roscommon
Variant forms of parish name:
Kilkeevan
Castlerea

See https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0551

You can look to see adjacent parishes in Co.Roscommon from the map at https://registers.nli.ie/

I hope so. I’ve been at a dead end for many years.

Other children were Margaret, John, James and Annie. All born in Canada.

Michael and Mary Elizabeth were born Ireland.

Thomas was born 1800 and !
Bridget 1818. She may be a Kelly but cannot confirm,

Thanks you from Canada
