Thanks Maggsie.  Hope the OP hasn't wasted any money on an unsuitable sub!

I think it will be easier to join The Western Front Association for £29 for a year's membership and view the WWI documents through that means.

From their website:

Members of The Western Front Association will be delighted to learn that another massive release of Pension Record Cards has been made available by our partners Ancestry.co.uk via their ‘Fold3’ platform. As ever, these cards are freely available to WFA members who log into the WFA website.

tillypeg, I didn't know about the WFA so this is very useful info.  Are the WFA records just a subset of what is on Fold3?  Or can you see everything on Fold3 just by using a WFA login?

I've just paid to join the WFA so will see.  I am sure it is only the Ancestry Pension Records, not the whole Fold3 - that would be too good a deal ;D  Will update when I've had a look.

That's what I was thinking tillypeg, too good a deal  ;D

For info, till the end of the month Fold3 are offering a 40% discount, bringing it down to something reasonable.  I don't like it being priced in dollars as until the card statement arrives you don't actually know how much it's cost you, but sometimes needs must.

Just had a quick look at the WFA.  You get access to WWI Pension Ledgers & Index Cards 1914-1923 and British WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards.  That's it.  If you are searching for an uncommon name that works well, but otherwise it looks like a lot of clicking on images to view them, or narrowing it down by rank etc.  Ah well, it's a rainy day here.....  ;)

Jane and Tillypeg,
Many thanks for researching and sharing this trap!

"The discount reduces the cost of a 12-month subscription from US$79.95 to US$47.95. The offer expires on Wednesay [sp] 31 January at 11:59pm MST."

Next discount offer on St Patrick's Day!
