Suggestions for Monica, Berlin Germany born around 1940
« on: Saturday 16 January 21 18:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

So i've been told that when my Grandad was over in Berlin with the Irish Guards he had a baby with a lady, called Monica in Berlin.

I'm trying to find them with the hope of providing the information to my potential Aunt/Uncle on who their Father's family was/is.

I've got a photo of my Grandad & Monica that is dated June 1959 and they are at Cafe Stephani,Heerstr 22, Berlin.

I know she was German, and probably from Berlin, i don't know an exact age but my Grandad was born in 1939, so she's going to have been born around 1939/1940, a few years either side.

She's written on the back of the photo 'I love you so much, with all my love and kisses, your Monica'.

This is all the information i have and i don't know where to start as i've never had to do any research into anybody outside of the UK/Ireland.  Any suggestions on where to start looking would be great.

I've tried Ancestry with Monica, Berlin, 1939 (5 years either side) and can't really find anything.

Hi,

His name was Pius Carr, also known as John and Joe.

I'm not sure where in Berlin he was stationed he didn't say unfortunately.

Update on this I found out he was stationed with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers Regiment - Spandau Barracks.

Not sure if this helps!

One way forward with this is to take a DNA test, possibly with Ancestry.com as they have the largest data base. This could bring you shared matches with Monica's family who may have the information you want. Good Luck in your search.

Hi yes,

I've done this unfortunately i'm yet to find anyone with a Monica in their tree where it would make sense.

Thanks though!

I'd suggest not confining the search for Monica to Berlin when searching for records because she may well have been born elsewhere and moved there afterwards.

I doubt you will have much chance of locating Monica without a surname, but I wish you luck.

No help for your search, but Spandau Barracks in Schmidt-Knobelsdorf Strasse, like all the other Barracks was like a magnet for a certain type of "lady',  ::)
