Robinson Family Armagh

Hello Everyone.

I'm new to this page and researching. I'm looking into my Dad's side of the family on his fathers side.

My Grandad Patrick James Robinson was born 11/01/1931  Crossmaglen, Armagh, NI
 Died April 2008 Sittingboure, Kent, England

The only information I have on my Great Grandparents is that my Great Grandad died aged 87 and my Great Grandmother died aged 72 and was an Irish Tinker and that its believed they were married at Saint Macartins Cathedral.

I know this is not a lot of information but if anyone is able to help with anything that would be great. Thank you  :)

If any of these people are still alive (or even possible), their names should not be listed.

Please edit your post.  Also, if you happen to know the names of your great-grandparents, that will help as well.

I didnt know that, thank you for the heads up. I've taken their names out as my dad is not sure who is still with us but does know one of his brothers passed.

My Dad doesn't remember the names of his Grandparents but I have added an extra bit of information to my Great Grandmother as I forgot. She was an Irish Tinker.

Suggest you try and get your granddad's birth record from GRONI. That will give you his parents' names:

Also, the St. Macartin's Cathedral is in County Fermanagh so you may find the family was from there.

You will need to phone & request a paper certificate cost £15 of your grandfather's 1931 birth as online birth records have 100 year restriction. https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/ordering-life-event-certificates

You could then look up his father and mother's birth & marriage (75 year restriction for marriages so will be an online image - cost £2.50 in credits & need to register and lodge 50p to search index first. Pre-1920 records are available for free on https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp so parents' births should be there. GRONI has mother's maiden names back to start of registration 1864 whereas on Irishgeneology  mother's surname is only indexed from 1900 a combined approach to find eg siblings is useful pre-1900.

A family member who registered the 2008 death may have the 1931 birth or his marriage cert which would both list father. The GRO says those are useful (but not essential documents) to produce to the registrar.
