Looking for my Granny
« on: Saturday 23 January 21 20:17 GMT (UK) »
This is a photo of my mum Dorothy, she was adopted as a new born and died last March, and she never knew her mum. Dorothy was born in Edinburgh on 09/12/1936 to G***** S***** F****** her mother, around 18 years of age.
G***** worked as a domestic servant at 13 Chamberlain road Edinburgh.
My mum wanted to marry in 1955 and as her adoption certificate was not correct G***** had to be contacted. A lawyer found her mother in the Dumfries area but as she was settled, married and had 2 more children she did not want to meet my mum.
Since then my mother felt she was not wanted so never tried again and refused to let me search.  I know my Granny will be dead now but I  would love to make contact with anyone who knew G****. I only wish a photo or some information on her life and her health. I hope someone recognises the name and perhaps a likeness in the photos. I have tried searching on sites but no luck so far. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Hi , welcome to RC  :)

As it could be a sensitive subject I've edited your post.
From what you have Scotlandspeople have a 2006 death in Annan Dumfries that might match.

Where is the reference to Dumfries, Carrbridge? See Dorothy's birth in 1936 was in Edinburgh?

Someone looking for the same person.

Threads merged.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Suggest we leave any responses for the other thread as it has more details on it? The possible death that Ev mentions is the only one I could see too. No births that I could see in Scotland for mother with those names though.

Monica

Added: I couldn't see a possible marriage in Scotland with the second surname given on the death index entry from 2006 on SP.

Please don't remove the post about G**** S***** F******.  It's my granny and she will be deceased now. My mother, her daughter has also died. So I am looking for some information on G***** if possible. The reason it was in Dumfries's area is because that was where she lived for a short time.

F****** would have been her maiden name. There is a possibility that she married after 1936
and had two more children.

I was advised to try this site but I don't see the point if names are deleted.  These people are deceased now so no harm would be done.
