Parents of Catherine (Kate) MacLeod (1848-1912)
« on: Sunday 24 January 21 02:03 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to verify the parents of Catherine (Kate) MacLeod (born Stenscholl, Kilmuir, Isle of Skye, abt 1848; died 1912 in Struanmore). Some researchers have her parents as Donald MacLeod (1818-1912) and Anne Gordon (1811-91); others have alternative parents William MacLeod (1801-81) and Ann McKinnon (1805-81). Unfortunately, I cannot find sound supporting evidence for either of these, or other, options. Any help much appreciated.

Hi , welcome to RC  :)

Have you looked at her marriage(?) or death certificates ?
Both should name her parents , but I would go with the marriage cert. as the death cert. information would only be to the best knowledge of the informant.
Is this Catherine's death ? -
Catherine MacLeod , age 65 , 1912 Bracadale Inverness( https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ )

Are you sure that's the correct death ?
Other surname is Ross.
Possible marriages to Hugh Ross or Angus Ross  :-\

Catherine Ross that died in 1912 Bracadale appears on the 1911 census there, still 65.

If she is Catherine Macleod that means she could have been born after the 1851 census?

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

HUGH ROSS   married   CATHERINE MACLEOD   1874   Stenscholl

By 1891 the family are on North Uist with their 8 children. Hugh is 39 & Catherine 45
(This is consistent with later information born about 1845/46)

Children on census: Ann 15, Ronald 13, Dorcas 11, Donald 9 + 4 others.

Assuming they followed the Scottish Naming Pattern Catherine’s parents were more likely to be Donald & Ann.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Welcome to Rootschat.

How did you arrive at Catherine MacLeod?

Was she married, who to, when, where & how old was she?

Her marriage cert. should name both parents.

Have you found her on census' with a consistent Yob as 1848.
